Charity Lunch Day
On Wednesday 11th November, pupils at Rose Hill Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire were ‘treated’ to a charity lunch. Instead of the regular school menu, all the children in the school were served a simple, but hearty, meal of soup, bread and cheese.
The aim of the charity lunch day was to raise awareness amongst the pupils about children who were less fortunate than themselves. The money saved in the kitchens by not producing the usual school meals were donated to the Yate Opportunities Group.
Yate Opportunities Group is a charity which runs a pre-school unit which offers a high percentage of places to children with additional needs. These needs can be extremely varied and may include Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, visual impairment, chromosome abnormalities or any conditions not yet diagnosed. The children are given a caring and professional welcome; and parents and carers are offered support, advice and a period respite.
At Rose Hill Westonbirt, the children enjoyed the simple meal and that they were really contributing to something worthwhile. Headmaster Neil Shaw said “this is a wonderful way for children to stop and think about how lucky they are and we are very pleased to be supporting a local educational charity at the same time.”
Rose Hill Westonbirt shares a campus and catering facilities with Westonbirt School, which also took part in the charity lunch.
