Enrichment Day
What a wonderful experience the children had on Enrichment Day: to be given a challenge that lasted for the whole day and which involved working across the traditional age groups with plenty of teamwork. The challenge was to design and make a Smoothie or a Cookie, then to design and make the packaging, think of how to advertise the product, and then present their product to a panel of judges. All this in the space of just a few hours! It was very rewarding to work with the children, to see some of them in a different light – potential leaders, marketers, presenters, teachers (some children were really great at helping and explaining to others). Children were fully occupied with a time-limited goal of the presentation before a panel as their aim.Creativity and imagination were everywhere in evidence – the DT room, the ICT suite, the Music room, the Dance room and classrooms … At the end of the day the children presented their products to the judges, our very own Mr Barrett and Mrs Goodall and one of our Governors, Mrs Susan Whitfield. The presentations were full of plenty of singing and dancing, accompanied by Power Point presentations from the older children;a feast of colour and sound, which was difficult for the panel of judges because each one was so good. What did the children take away from their day? No doubt each child has their own particular memories;however a sense of working together, of getting to know older or younger children better, of having to think "outside the box" using creativity and imagination, of achieving their goal, of being constrained by a time limit .. and of course having a fun day in the process!
