Year 1 assembly and owl visit
Year 1 delighted us with a brilliant assembly last week.
Showing great spirit and determination, they all trudged in through the snow, arriving early and eager for their chance to shine.
They presented a wonderful assembly about bravery, told through music, stories and poetry. The children retold two stories about owls who both concentrate on overcoming fear and becoming brave. The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark and Owl Babies are both lovely stories to share with children.
The children all played their parts brilliantly and looked superb in their costumes. This assembly fitted in very nicely with the class topic of Animals. To top it all, Mrs Bate also organised a special visitor to come into school. Following the theme we were delighted to welcome Dave from the South Gloucestershire Hawk and Owl Trust who brought in Loki, a stunning Barn Owl who was shown to all the children in the school. In small groups everyone had a chance to get up close to this beautiful bird and learn about its habits and the dangers owls are facing in the UK at the moment.
A big thank you to the Parents' Association who very generously made a donation to the Owl Trust.
