Rose Hill And Westonbirt Pupils Remember
A very moving Assembly of Remembrance was held this morning at Rose Hill Westonbirt to remember those that fought and died for their country.
The service was opened by Headmaster, Neil Shaw before the pupils and parents who had attended this special service sang the hymn “When a Knight Won His Spurs”. This was followed by the Junior School Choir singing “Drop In The Ocean.”

One of the parents, serving in the Forces, Wing Commander Clarke, then delivered a very powerful presentation, emphasizing the meaning of Remembrance Day and the symbolic poppy. He also touched on the story and bravery of one of few surviving pilots from the Battle of Britain, 93 year old Peter Olver – a story made even more poignant as he is the father of Jake Olver, the Operations Director at Westonbirt School. Wing Commander Clarke spoke not only of World Wars 1 and II but also about those serving in Afghanistan and the debt we owe to them.
The presentation was followed by a recital of the poem ‘Never Again’ written by Scott Beer (aged 10) by Rose Hill Westonbirt pupil, Siobhan Cran, Year 6. The Last Post was then played by Harriet Smith, a Year 12 pupil from sister school, Westonbirt School, before a 2 minutes’ silence was observed. The service was concluded with the Prayer – “They Shall Not Grow Old” read by Georgie Johnson-Greening (Year 6).
