Scheherazade!
Last week Rose Hill Westonbirt pupils performed their eagerly anticipated summer production 'Scheherazade, Tales of the Arabian Nights'. The cast gave two tremendous performances under the direction of Mrs Shirley Jee, Director of Music, and entertained the audience from start to finish.
Performed brilliantly by Year 6 pupil Ella Morrison, the audience watched as Scheherazade cleverly persuaded the Sultan (Ethan Butterfield), who had called for her death, to keep her alive day after day. Scheherazade did so by telling a series of stories, but always waiting for the following day to finish them. Once she had finished the story she would begin a second, even more exciting tale. Scheherazade's tales included the Tale of the Beggar (Robert Segrave-Daly), the wonderful tale of Ali Baba (Ben Bayliss), the comical story of the Fisherman's tale (played by Alex Shaw alongside John Davies as the hilarious Genie), and the magical story of the Prince and the Stone King (Patrick Taylor-Kielty and Jack Musselwhite). With fantastic music, energetic dance and superb costumes, 'Scheherazade' has certainly raised the bar for future Rose Hill Westonbirt productions!
Headmaster Mr Neil Shaw was thrilled by the performance: "The quality of the music, drama, costumes and scenery was exceptional. Many of the parents commented it was just like a professional performance. This is the standard we reach for in everything we do at Rose Hill Westonbirt School."
